ACC suppled 700 cattle to last year’s Great Cattle Drive and we’re back for more this year – providing as many cattle for this vital charity initiative.

Our CEO Anthony Lee attended the recent launch of the 2026 drive at Queensland’s Government House to explain the importance of the 550km drove which raises funds for FoodBank and FareShare – feeding vulnerable Australians.

Foodbank patron, state governor, Her Excellency, The Hon Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, hosted the launch that included mayors from Longreach, Barcaldine and Blackall-Tambo councils.

The drove will see 1800 cattle travel along historic stock routes through Muttaburra, Aramac, Ilfracombe and Barcaldine to Blackall in 46 days.

Sponsorships, riding experiences and a final cattle auction will raise funds. Last year the drove raised more than $200,000, providing more than 300,000 protein meals.

Anthony participated in last year’s ride – albeit only as a strapper- with his children and some friends.

“It was just the best experience. Sitting around a campfire dinner, the camaraderie, the stories from the different walks of life, all interacting. I cannot tell you how great it was,” he said.

“It’s a truly unique experience I’ll always remember. Can’t wait to – hopefully – get back out there.”

Her Excellency recalled that some areas of central Queensland are still recovering from the 2019 floods which claimed half a million cattle. “This time so far it’s 100,000, which is still enormous. And a lot of those places haven’t recovered after 2019,” she said.

“And this is why I think this cattle drive is so amazing because this is about people who have already lost a lot giving more for people who are doing it really, really tough.”
