10 JANUARY 2024: We have been helping researchers studying Australia’s Wagyu and Wagyu-cross herds, seeking to establish the genetics behind high-performing animals.
ACC was among the eight commercial operators providing data for a national CSIRO-led study.
The scientists used our data to test the Wagyu Feeder Check, a genomic-based tool designed to provide estimated breeding values for five traits related to feedlot growth and carcase characteristics such as meat marbling. The tool was launched in April 2023.
ACC’s R&D manager Paul Gibson said: “Validating the tool is important to help cattle producers predict differences in performance. As a major feedlot operator and a premium Wagyu producer, ACC supports this Australian-initiated genetic-merit measurement.”
